Multi-Adventure 3 Days (2 Days Trek & 1 Day Kayak)

Trip overview:

Experience the unique blend of nature and culture in the untouched jungle and village communities of Nam Ha NPA. Expert forest guides will teach us about the indigenous lifestyle and local hunting techniques over three days in the dense forest, including river trips, camping in banana leaf shelters, fishing, and frog hunting. The adventure includes jungle camping, a village homestay, and kayaking on the Nam Ha River, with lessons on medicinal plants and traditional cooking without modern utensils.

Itinerary:

  • Day 1: Nam Ha Village - Jungle Camp

    • Morning: Meet at 9:00 AM at the office or your hotel. Take a tuk-tuk to the hiking trail start. After a market visit for supplies, begin a 4-5 hour hike through dense rainforest and cultivated lands.
    • Afternoon: Enjoy a picnic lunch in the jungle. Continue hiking for 2-3 hours through old-growth trees, reaching the campsite around 4:00 PM.
    • Evening: Set up banana leaf shelters, swim, collect bamboo and firewood, and enjoy dinner. Overnight at the banana leaf camp.
  • Day 2: Jungle Camp - Nalan Village

    • First Option (3-hour hike): After breakfast, cross the Nam Ha River to the opposite bank and hike to Nalan Village. Enjoy a traditional lunch and learn about Khmu culture.
    • Second Option (5-6 hour hike): Retrace the previous day’s trail through the Nam Ha NPA valley. After lunch, hike downhill to the stream and arrive at Nalan Village before sunset. Check into the homestay, explore the village, and enjoy dinner and community activities.
    • Morning: Optional jungle safari, bird listening, and short trek before breakfast. Choose between a 5-6 hour trek crossing the Nam Ha River or a 3-4 hour trek before lunch and crossing the river to the village.
    • Afternoon: Picnic lunch and continue hiking through dense jungle, banana plants, and bamboo groves. Arrive at Ban Nalan homestay.
    • Evening: Before dinner at 7:00 PM, relax or swim in the river. Enjoy a Baci ceremony and Khmu traditional performances. Overnight at the Khmu homestay.
  • Day 3: Nalan Village - Nam Khoy - Houylued by Kayak

    • Morning: Breakfast and coffee or tea. Receive kayaking instructions and paddle down the Nam Ha River, tackling rapids and visiting Nalan Tai village for a Lao picnic lunch.
    • Afternoon: Continue kayaking, enjoy the dramatic scenery, and visit Nam Koy village to learn about natural dyeing and bamboo paper making. Join the Namtha River and tackle more rapids. End the kayak trip at Houy Leuat village. Return by tuk-tuk to the office.

Note: Nam Ha River is best for kayaking from July to November. Low water levels from December to June may make kayaking rocky.
