Trip overview:

Experience an amazing trek and kayak adventure through the ancient primary rainforest and jungle surroundings of Nam Ha NPA. Enjoy breathtaking views, explore nature under the canopies of old-growth trees, and visit the remote Khmu village awarded the ASEAN Standard of Community-Based Tourism. Learn about their lifestyle, culture, and traditions while participating in various community-offered activities and staying overnight in a Khmu homestay. Paddle downriver, tackle exciting rapids, and visit remote communities for an unforgettable experience.

Itinerary:

  • Day 1: Doiluckkham - Ban Nalan

    • Morning: Meet at the office or your hotel at 09:00 AM. Visit the morning market for fresh supplies, then head to Nam Ha NPA by 10:00 AM. Hike through dense primary rainforest, with guides explaining local plants and their uses. Enjoy a jungle-cooked meal using fresh supplies.
    • Afternoon: Continue hiking through lush rainforest, crossing streams and cultivated lands of rattan, cardamom, and banana plants. Arrive at the village before sunset. After checking into your homestay, explore the village, learn about local lifestyle and traditions, and enjoy a dinner prepared by your host family. Participate in community activities like Khmu performances and crossbow demonstrations.
    • Evening: Free time to explore the village, interact with locals, or relax by the Nam Ha River. Dinner will be freshly prepared by your guides. Learn to cook Laotian food and enjoy a candlelight meal before a restful night.
  • Day 2: Ban Nalan - Ban Houy Leuat

    • Morning: Enjoy breakfast and coffee or tea prepared by your guides. After a safety briefing, start kayaking down the river, navigating through rapids and visiting the charming Khmu tribe at Nalan Tai village for a Lao picnic lunch.
    • Afternoon: Continue kayaking, watching dramatic jungle scenery and visiting Nam Koy village of the Lantan people to learn about natural dyeing and bamboo paper making. Join the Namtha River and navigate more rapids before reaching Houy Leuat village, where your tuk-tuk will take you back to the office. 

    Note: The Nam Ha River is best for kayaking from June to November. Low water levels from December to June may make kayaking more challenging.
